The Wiltshire Local Plan sets out Wiltshire Council's vision and framework for the future development of the area. This plan is designed by the Local Planning Authority, Wiltshire Council, and members of the public are asked to contribute their views in a series of consultations.
Following previous consultations, the Local Plan for Wiltshire is in its final stage of consultation, which remains open until the 22nd November 2023. Over the past month, Wiltshire Council has been hosting consultation events and webinars to help local residents find out how it will affect them. I attended a few of these events in my capacity as a Wiltshire Councillor, helping ensure residents across the new Chippenham Constituency know the details of the local plan.
When I attended these events, I noticed a clear desire to ensure infrastructure led development, with some residents talking about the town centre in Calne and how a needs led approach to filling the empty retail units is desired. I also spoke to some residents in Royal Wootton Bassett about their opposition for the locations of the Strategic Development sites, I later followed this up the Council and their officers. There has been an amazing engagement across the towns of the new constituency and I am looking forward to speaking to you more about how I can help make the constituency a better place to live, work and visit.
