Dear Resident.
Thanks to the long-term decisions taken by the Conservative Government, this month an exciting package of tax cuts, pay increases and cost of living support will come into effect that will benefit people across the Chippenham Constituency.
I wanted to get in touch to let you know which changes are coming and how they might benefit you.
I know that the past few years have been difficult for people in the Chippenham Constituency following the pandemic and Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. That is why I have welcomed the difficult decisions taken by the Conservative Government that have seen inflation more than half as the economy begins to turn a corner, placing us in a positive economic position facilitating tax cuts.
Tax cuts this month are placing £450 back into the pockets of the average worker on £35,400, saving them £900 alongside the Conservative Government’s tax cuts last year. The Conservative Government is committed to cutting the double tax on work, making work pay for 29 million working people across the country by saving the average nurse £1,053, the average police officer £1,270 and a junior doctor £1,508.
The National Living Wage will increase this month to £11.44, an increase of 9.8 per cent for those on the lowest pay, equivalent to an annual pay boost of £1,800, or £150 a month, for 2.7 million workers. The Conservative Government is committed to end low hourly pay for workers on the National Living Wage, that is why I welcome this pay increase as part of our long-term plan to make work pay, under which the minimum wage has doubled since 2010.
Families and parents are also set to benefit as the Conservative Government is cutting the High-Income Child Benefit Charge, putting up to £1,664 back into the pockets of hardworking families, assisting with the costs of raising a child. The Conservative Government recognises that raising a child can be costly, and that is why we are cutting taxes for working parents, making sure that hard work pays, alongside saving them money by freezing fuel duty.
Businesses, in particular small businesses, are the backbone of our economy. That is why the Conservatives Government has frozen business rates for the fourth year in a row, reducing the amount businesses pay for their property to support them as the economy begins to turn a corner. By freezing business rates for the fourth year in a row, we are saving a typical independent pub £11,800, helping to keep the price of a pint down, with the average café saving £5,700, delivering on our plan to cut inflation.
Pensioners are in a unique position in that they cannot work to top up their income to cover the increased cost of living. That is why we are committed to the triple lock, supporting pensioners by guaranteeing that the state pension will never increase by less than inflation. Since 2010, when the Conservative Government introduced the triple lock, the state pension has increased by £5,700, £990 more than if it had just been uprated by inflation, assisting pensioners to live with dignity.
The long-term decisions taken by the Conservative Government have this month enabled an increase in the state pension, pay increases for those on the Living Wage, tax cuts for workers, tax cuts for families and a business rates freeze, delivering on our plan to create a brighter future for you, your family and those across the Chippenham Constituency.
Kind regards,
Nic Puntis, Conservative Party Candidate for the new Chippenham Constituency
